Finding a Retirement-Friendly State

Ah, retirement. The very sound ofstrat things up again the word is music to the ears of millions of older workers, especially those who will be financially prepared to stop working. No boss, no schedule, long days of leisure down in sunny Florida … or Arizona … or maybe California. Which state should you choose, anyway?my best friend Of course, there is no right answer to this question, but the state in which you choose to retire will affect how far your retirement dollars will go. Let's take a look at the types of I am in the worng worldtaxation levied by different states and how this can impact your financial well-being in your golden years.New York has stipulations for some government code technologyemployees to receive tax-free pension income, but not all retirees. These three states exempt virtually any kind of income received from tax-deferred accounts, including pensions, IRAs and qualified plans.
If your pension is from the government ornot only about survival the military, then seven more states open up for consideration: Alabama, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York. If the aforementioned states do not appeal to you as retirement havens, seven others exempt at least a portion of pension income from taxation: Delaware, Georgia, Minnesota, New Mexico, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.
States that tax all retirement income at relatively high rates include California, Connecticut, Nebraska, Rhode Island and Vermont. More complete information on how each state taxes their residents' pension income can be found at RetirementLiving.com
Retirees seeking relief from Social Security taxation at the state level have far more choices than those who do not want to pay taxes on their pension income. In addition to the nine income-tax-free states, as of 2008, there are 27 more (plus Washington D.C.) that exempt Social Security benefits from taxation. The remaining states all tax Social Security income to some degree, although several of them have imposed various types of limits that apply when calculating the amount owed on this income.

unreasonable. If you arrive at the audit with a large chip on your shoulder, you might make the auditor less willing to see things in your light. look at yourself
Provide only copies. Don't bring original documents to the audit. If you do bring originals, do not give them to the agent. Request that the agent make copies and give the originals back to you. Once you hand over your original documents, there's a very good chance that they will be misplaced or lost. Then you're the one holding the bag, since the IRS isn't responsible for documents lost in its possession. little boy
Stay on point. The auditor will be able to obtain some valuable information in what seem to be simple and friendly discussions. Asking about my softwarean expensive new car that you might have purchased, or that vacation to the Greek Isles, might give the auditor reason to believe that you're not reporting all of yourI miss my home income and thus expand the scope of the audit. When you meet with the auditor, in essence, you're providing testimony. So answer as many questions as possible with a simple from and go"yes" or "no" response. If you must expand or explain, keep it brief and very much to the point. Don't give the auditor a reason to expand the audit because of your tendency to ramble on.Know your rights as a taxpayer. Remember that an audit is like a small trial. It is an adversarial exercise. So while you can disagree without being disagreeable, you must know your rights, the audit process, and the law behind the deductions you are claiming. Settling any difference at the audit level is generally best, but if you can't come to an agreement, you have rights that allow you to request a conference with the IRS Appeals Division.
Be aware that appeals officers are even more senior than agents, with much more experience and knowledge behind them. If you're making a specious argument that the tax law doesn't support, the appeals officer will quickly shoot it down. However, if the issue is complicated and your argument is founded in tax law and court cases, the appeals officer can make quick work of the analysis -- and might just find in your favor.
Again, your best bet if you're audited is to retain the services of a qualified and experienced tax pro who can argue your case without passion or prejudice. Such a person already knows the most effective ways to help you quickly resolve a conflict with the IRS. Hiring such a person is not cheap, but quality services never are, and you could pay a lot more if you don't hire a professional and the audit doesn't go well. The tax code has become so complicated that you're unlikely to know the law as it applies to your tax return and your rights as a taxpayer. That's why a qualified tax pro can be worth every dollar of his or her fee.But again, for those of you who decide to go the do-it-yourself route, stick to the game plan we've discussed here. And if you ever decide to remove your own appendix, well, good luck with that, too.

President of Nigeria Dies After Long Illness

DAKAR, Senegal — President Umaru Yar’Adua of Nigeria, whose chronic ill health sapped initial promises of reform and led to a constitutional crisis in his country, died Wednesday night, the information minister said in a brief interview. He was 58.
Enlarge This Image
Afolabi Sotunde/Reuters
“He has died,” said the minister, Dora Akunyili, adding that Mr. Yar’Adua had expired at the presidential villa in the capital, Abuja.
Mr. Yar’Adua suffered from kidney and heart ailments, and his health had been one of the country’s top concerns for weeks, ever since he departed at the end of November for emergency treatment in Saudi Arabia.
He did not transfer power when he left. In the following months, Nigeria, already racked by low-level civil wars over oil and religion, was left in limbo. There was no center of authority, and a peace plan Mr. Yar’Adua had enacted for the violence-plagued oil-producing south seemed in danger of falling apart.
Mr. Yar’Adua, shielded by his wife and other supporters, did not appear in public and made no statements, apart from a few faltering words to the BBC in January from his hospital room. As public anger over the power vacuum grew amid fears that the country would revert to military dictatorship, the National Assembly reluctantly acted in February, handing power over to Mr. Yar’Adua’s vice president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Ever since, Mr. Jonathan has called himself merely the “acting president,” proceeding on the assumption — which few people among the country’s political class or media shared — that Mr. Yar’Adua would one day return to office. He was taken back to Nigeria in the middle of the night on Feb. 24, but was seen by no one outside his immediate circle. There were public demands that Mr. Jonathan meet with him, but there was no indication that he had done so.
Increasingly discounted as a political force, by virtue of his presence Mr. Yar’Adua placed an additional question mark over the presidency of Mr. Jonathan, a native of the rival southern half of Nigeria. That has now been removed.
Mr. Yar’Adua, a soft-spoken former governor from the country’s Muslim north, won a deeply flawed election in 2007 that included credible reports of fraud and ballot stuffing. Still, the election was seen as an advance in a vast, populous and resource-rich country that less than a decade before had been enduring a brutal military dictatorship.
Trained as a chemist, he was born Aug. 16, 1951, into a political family. His father became a minister soon after Nigeria gained independence, and his brother held a ranking post in a military government of the late 1970s.
Nigerians, keenly aware that their impoverished and wealth-stratified nation has not realized its potential, had hopes that Mr. Yar’Adua might help it do so. He promised to tackle a culture pervaded by corruption, improve the shaky to nonexistent electricity supply, and end the violence that crippled production of oil, Nigeria’s principal source of cash.
But his truncated presidency fell short on all three points. The leading anti-corruption official in the country was chased from office after vigorously pursuing high-level graft, including among Mr. Yar’Adua’s supporters. The lights continue to flicker on and off throughout the country. And the Niger Delta, although less incendiary than in some previous years, still experiences periodic flare-ups. The shadowy rebel groups in that region purport to fight under a banner that nonetheless remains as glaringly real as when Mr. Yar’Adua took office three years ago: Nigeria’s vast inequities in wealth. a date to me

Who Can Mock This Church?

Maybe the Catholic Church should be turned upside down.
Jesus wasn’t known for pontificating from palaces, covering up scandals, or issuing Paleolithic edicts on social issues. Does anyone think he would have protected clergymen who raped children?
Yet if the top of the church has strayed from its roots, much of its base is still deeply inspiring. I came here to impoverished southern Sudan to write about Sudanese problems, not the Catholic Church’s. Yet once again, I am awed that so many of the selfless people serving the world’s neediest are lowly nuns and priests — notable not for the grandeur of their vestments but for the grandness of their compassion.
As I’ve noted before, there seem to be two Catholic Churches, the old boys’ club of the Vatican and the grass-roots network of humble priests, nuns and laity in places like Sudan. The Vatican certainly supports many charitable efforts, and some bishops and cardinals are exemplary, but overwhelmingly it’s at the grass roots that I find the great soul of the Catholic Church.
The Vatican believes that this newspaper and other news organizations have been unfair and overzealous in excavating the church’s cover-ups of child rape. I see the opposite. No organization has done more to elevate the moral stature of the Catholic Church in the United States than The Boston Globe. Its groundbreaking 2002 coverage of abuse by priests led to reforms and by most accounts a significant reduction in abuse. Catholic kids are safer today not because of the cardinals’ leadership, but because of The Boston Globe’s.
Yet the church leaders are right about one thing: there is often a liberal and secular snobbishness toward the church as a whole — and that is unfair.
It may be easy at a New York cocktail party to sniff derisively at a church whose apex is male chauvinist, homophobic and so out of touch that it bars the use of condoms even to curb AIDS. But what about Father Michael Barton, a Catholic priest from Indianapolis? I met Father Michael in the remote village of Nyamlell, 150 miles from any paved road here in southern Sudan. He runs four schools for children who would otherwise go without an education, and his graduates score at the top of statewide examinations.
Father Michael came to southern Sudan in 1978 and chatters fluently in Dinka and other local languages. To keep his schools alive, he persevered through civil war, imprisonment and beatings, and a smorgasbord of disease. “It’s very normal to have malaria,” he said. “Intestinal parasites — that’s just normal.”
Father Michael may be the worst-dressed priest I’ve ever seen — and the noblest.
Anybody scorn him? Anybody think he’s a self-righteous hypocrite?
On the contrary, he would make a great pope.
In the city of Juba, I met Cathy Arata, a nun from New Jersey who spent years working with battered women in Appalachia. Then she moved to El Salvador during the brutal civil war there, putting her life on the line to protect peasants. Two years ago, she came here on behalf of a terrific Catholic project called Solidarity With Southern Sudan.
Sister Cathy and the others in the project have trained 600 schoolteachers. They are fighting hunger not with handouts but with help for villagers to improve agricultural techniques. They are also establishing a school for health workers, with a special focus on midwifery to reduce deaths in childbirth.
At the hospital attached to that school, the surgeon is a nun from Italy. The other doctor is a 72-year-old nun from Rhode Island. Nuns rock.
Sister Cathy would like to see more decentralization in the church, a greater role for women, and more emphasis on public service. She says she worries sometimes that if Jesus returned he would say, “Oh, they got it all wrong!”
She would make a great pope, too.
There are so many more like them. There’s Father Mario Falconi, an Italian priest who refused to leave Rwanda during the genocide and bravely saved 3,000 people from being massacred. There’s Father Mario Benedetti, a 72-year-old Italian priest based in Congo who fled with his congregation when their town was attacked by a brutal militia. Now Father Mario lives side by side with his Congolese congregants in the squalor of a refugee camp in southern Sudan, struggling to get schooling for their children.
It’s because of brave souls like these that I honor the Catholic Church. I understand why many Americans disdain a church whose leaders are linked to cover-ups and antediluvian stances on women, gays and condoms — but the Catholic Church is far larger than the Vatican.
And unless we’re willing to endure beatings alongside Father Michael, unless we’re willing to stand up to warlords with Sister Cathy, we have no right to disparage them or their true church.

mobile communication technology

With the rapid development of mobile communication technology, the repeater is playing an increasingly important role in the expansion of mobile network coverage and the optimization of network. In order to keep the repeater equipment working properly and ensure the signal coverage of mobile network, the effective monitoring and management of all kinds of repeaters are very necessary. This is a significant task for equipment manufacturers and network operators. As repeaters are always deployed in remote areas, and geographically dispersed, it is difficult to maintain repeaters on-site regularly. If a remote centralized monitoring platform for the repeater could be established, the network management staff would not need to run around, and could manage repeaters comfortably. It would be a promotion for repeater management capability.Combining with the present situation of the research on CDMA repeater monitoring technology, this paper analyzed the structure and functional requirements of a typical repeater monitoring system, and then designed a monitoring and management platform for the CDMA repeater using short message technology.

Reality Bytes

Awake in my bed
By the honks of rude city buses
Another day as usual
Away from my small village
Away from the sweet morning greetings of birds & flowers
Away from the smiling gentle country folks
Now all these are nothing but sweet memories
To ease the pain of struggling in a city
Corrupted & Polluted with nothing
But skyscrapers blocking sky & sun
Traffic jams that make you aware of each second
Indifferent people who make you feel like a stranger everywhere
Oh how I yearn to go back home
'I will go back ' I reassure myself all the time
Years pass by with my frustrations increasing
I pack my bag when I can't take it any longer
Humming silently 'Country roads take me home'
I am on my way back home
Dreaming of my wonderful mornings ahead
But when I reach there I realise I am a stranger to this place
A place with new buildings
Just like mushrooms popped up after a rain
No birds, No trees, No country folks
'What happened? ‘I wonder
I realise that my village is dead long back
Now I have to find a new home a new village
I am back to road again
In that search for my dream my home
Realising that ' Reality Bites'

Wind

No one has seen the wind. Yet I can feel it at work all the time. It is never quiet just like human feelings. The most peaceful wind is the breeze. When it is windier, it does not mean rest but a storm approaching. In hot summer, I like to sit where it is windy and cool. The breeze softly touches my face. When autumn comes the wind gains in momentum. Sometimes the wind is naughty and keeps beating on the window and turning over the pages of my book. The wind seems to be in the worst mood in winter. She blows people’s hats off. Who says the wind is emnotionless? I can hear her laughter and soft sighs even in spring.Yet no matter how freezing cold or scorching hot or wild angry or extremely happy the wind can he, there seems to be an end to it. But the wind is not willing to be tamed. Maybe just beeause of this the universe keeps it in such tight control.

How to Avoid Foolish Opinions

To avoid the various foolish opinions to which mankind is prone, no superhuman genius is required. If the matter is one that can be settled by observation, make the observation yourself.

Many matters, however, are less easily brought to the test of experience. If,like most of mankind, you have passionate convictions on many such matters, there are ways in which you can make yourself aware of your own bias. If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If someone maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good
evidence either way. Persecution is used in theology, not in arithmetic, because in theology there is only opinion. So wheneveryou find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.
A good way of ridding yourself of certain kinds of dogmatism is to become aware of opinions held in social circles different from your own. If the people and the newspaper seem mad, perverse, and wicked, remind yourself that you seem so to them. In this opinion both parties may be right, but they cannot both be wrong. This reflection should generate a certain caution.
For those who have enough psychological imagination, it is a good plan to imagine an argument with a person having a different bias. This has one advantage, and only one, as compared with actual conversation with opponents; this one advantage is that the method is not subject to the same limitations of time and space.

which counts.

No one knows exactly how many disabled people there are in the world, but estimates suggest the figure is over 450million. The number of disabled people in India alone is probably more than double the total population of Canada. In the united Kingdom, about one in ten people have some disability.Disability is not just something tht happens to other people:as we get older, many of us will become less mobile, hard of hearing or have failing eyesight.Disablement can take many forms and occur at any time of life. Some people are born with disabilities. Many others become disabled as they get older. There are many progressive disabling diseases. The longer time goes on,the worse they become. Some people are disabled in accidents. Many others may have a period of disability in the form of a mental illness. All are affected by people's attitude towards them.Disabled people face many physical barriers.Next time you go shopping or to work or visit friends, imagine how you would manage if you could not get up steps,or on to buses and trains. How would you cope if you could not see where you were going or could not hear the traffic? But there are other barriers:prejudice can be even harder to break down and ignorance inevitably represents by far the greatest barrier of all. It is almost impossible for the able-bodied to fuly appreciate what the severely disabled go through,so it is important to draw attention to these barriers and show that it is the individual person and their ability, not their disability, which counts.
